Break-in gang shot dead

SEPANG: Three foreign criminals, whose house break-in spree was marked by violence against their victims, were shot dead after attacking a police team in Desa Vista.

They were gunned down in a showdown after triggering a house alarm early yesterday morning.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said the police, alerted by a homeowner, cornered the criminals near a water tank in a wooded area at about 3am.

“The suspects, aged between 35 and 40, attacked the police personnel with machetes.

“The team of policemen had no choice but to open fire,” he said when met at the crime scene.

The criminals had been involved in robberies and burglaries across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan, racking up nearly RM1mil in stolen loot.

“They also acted violently, injuring victims during house break-ins in Sungai Buloh. They slashed a victim with a machete for refusing to comply.

“Checks revealed the suspects were responsible for 17 cases since early last year, including three during the Ramadan month,” said DCP Fadil.

Investigations revealed that the gang would leave the country after each crime spree, only to return and strike again later.

“We are tracking down two more suspects believed to be part of the same gang,” said DCP Fadil, adding that the bodies of the dead suspects have been sent to Hospital Serdang for a post-mortem.

He issued a stern warning to criminals, especially those involved in violent crimes, saying that police would not hesitate to take action.

“We will look for them wherever they are. We will take stern action against those who dare to commit violent crimes in this country.”

DCP Fadil also commended the public for their cooperation in providing information on criminal activities to the police.

“We need the public’s cooperation to successfully combat crime. The police, especially the CID, remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people by bringing criminals to justice,” he said.
