Armed robbers make off with cash and phones from Desa Setapak convenience store


PETALING JAYA: Two men, one armed with a machete, robbed a convenience store in Desa Setapak of cash and mobile phones totalling over RM6,000.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Lazim Ismail said police received a report on the incident at 4.43am on Friday (March 13) from a 24-year-old supervisor working at the premises.

He said the robbery occurred at 1.59am when two suspects entered the store wearing black face masks and motorcycle helmets.

"The suspects, who were armed, demanded that the victim hand over money.

"Fearing for his safety, the victim complied and surrendered RM2,467.50 in cash," he said in a statement on Sunday (March 15).

He added that the suspects also took two mobile phones belonging to the complainant and another employee during the incident.

"The suspects then fled the scene on two motorcycles. The total losses came to RM6,067.50," he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery, respectively.

"We are tracking down the suspects," he added.
