Big Sabah project announcements just an election ploy, says Bung

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno has criticised the state government's recent development project announcements as a political move rather than a genuine effort to improve the state.

Its chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic) said the state government has failed to provide concrete solutions to long-standing infrastructure issues, especially water supply, electricity, roads and other basic amenities.

"Since (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah) took over the state administration, these problems have remained unresolved, disrupting the daily lives of the people and stalling economic growth.

"Now, just months before the state election, the government has suddenly become highly active in announcing various projects.

"Is this a sincere effort to develop Sabah or just another old tactic to fish for votes?" Bung Moktar said in a statement on Wednesday (March 12).

He also dismissed these "last-minute project announcements" as an outdated political strategy that could no longer fool the people of Sabah.

"Sabahans are not easily swayed by grand promises, especially when they still struggle with necessities that should have been addressed long ago," he added.

He stressed that if the state government were serious about resolving infrastructure woes, solutions would have been implemented much earlier instead of being used as election campaign material.

"People want real action, not just big announcements that eventually turn into empty promises," Bung Moktar said.

Sabah Umno urged the government to be transparent and accountable in its policies, ensuring that development initiatives genuinely serve the people instead of becoming mere political rhetoric.

"We will continue to speak up and fight for the rights of Sabahans to ensure that the state does not lag in the progress it rightfully deserves," he said.

Sabah is expected to hold its state election this year, with political parties gearing up for a fierce battle for power.
