Two army men nabbed for hurting fellow soldier

JOHOR BARU: Two army personnel members have been arrested for allegedly injuring a fellow soldier at a military camp in Mersing.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received a report about the incident at Kem Iskandar at 8.31pm on March 14.

“The victim, a 25-year-old soldier, sustained a fractured skull and internal brain bleeding.

“He is currently receiving treatment at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur,” he said in a statement on Thursday (April 30).

Comm Ab Rahaman added that acting on information, police arrested two 24-year-old army personnel from the same camp at about 11.45pm on the same day the incident was reported.

“A rotan measuring about 72cm, believed to have been used as a weapon in the incident, was also seized,” he said, adding that both suspects have no prior criminal records and tested negative for drugs.

The case was investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and is liable to a fine or whipping upon conviction.

“Investigations have been completed and the investigation paper was referred to the Johor public prosecutor’s office on April 28 for further instructions,” he said.
