Melaka Opposition leader calls for cooler heads in cartoon dog sticker row

PETALING JAYA: Melaka Opposition leader Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub (pic) has called on his two fellow assemblymen to bury the hatchet and resolve their escalating feud.

The row - between Bersatu's Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof and Telok Mas assemblyman and Melaka tourism, heritage, arts and culture committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman - had gone too far, said the Bemban assemblyman, with police reports now being lodged over the issue.

"I am saddened that this dispute has escalated to the level of a police report.

"As a comrade-in-arms, I believe that the dispute between the Sungai Udang and Telok Mas assemblymen should be resolved privately through the spirit of brotherhood without having to involve more complicated legal channels," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 30).

Yadzil added that all elected representatives should never compromise the principles of politeness and dignity as leaders.

Dr Aleef had uploaded a photo of a person on social media, believed to be of Abdul Razak, with his face obscured by a cartoon dog sticker.

This had come after a heated exchange between the two at the state assembly on Wednesday (April 29).

Dr Mohd Aleef claimed that Abdul Razak had failed to answer his additional question about the status of a floating market project that had been closed for a year.

Dr Aleef's actions have drawn criticism from other politicians, while Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit confirmed that police had received five reports regarding the photo.
