MACC to record Ismail Sabri's statement on Thursday, March 13

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is scheduled to record his statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on Thursday (March 13).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki also said they would also record statements from 23 new witnesses in the ongoing investigation into corruption and money laundering linked to the former prime minister.

He also confirmed that Ismail Sabri's medical leave certificate (MC) expires on Wednesday (March 12).

"He (Ismail) will arrive at our office at 10am on Thursday. As for the additional 23 witnesses, they will be called in gradually over the coming days to assist in the investigation," he told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between MACC and Kota Kinabalu City Hall on Tuesday (Mar 11).

Azam also dismissed claims the investigation into Ismail Sabri was politically motivated.

"I have seen claims on social media suggesting that MACC 'planted' RM170mil. How would we even acquire such an amount?

"There is no selective investigation, we are conducting our work professionally," he said.

MACC seized RM170mil in foreign currency and 16kg of gold worth nearly RM7mil in the course of its investigation.

Previously, four former officials, including two individuals with the title 'Datuk' linked to Ismail Sabri, were remanded by the MACC on Feb 21 on suspicion of corruption.
