KUALA TERENGGANU: “Gerai Ayam Golek Ferris Wheel” at Kampung Wakaf Beruas here has become a popular spot during Ramadan.

Fans are flocking to the stall to buy ayam golek and to meet veteran actress Wan Maimunah Wan Abdul Aziz.

Known as the “primadonna of tears” for her tear-jerking roles, Wan Maimunah, 68, said she has been helping her 45-year-old son, Muhammad Shah Muhammad, during Ramadan to supplement his income.

Famous for her portrayal of a mother, Wan Maimunah also took the opportunity to meet fans who have been visiting the stall since the first day of the holy month.

“Thank God, many people stopped by after seeing the banner featuring my photo. At first, they just wanted to confirm whether it was really me or just a gimmick to boost sales.

“But once they saw for themselves, they were excited and took the opportunity to take wefies with me,” she said.

The actress was visibly moved by the warm reception from fans who travelled from afar to buy ayam golek and meet her in person.

The business operates daily from 3pm to 6.30pm throughout Ramadan.

In addition to ayam golek, fans can also enjoy her homemade meals, such as biryani rice, which is sold at RM5 per pack.

“On the first day of Ramadan, I started selling after Asar prayers. However, seeing the fans’ enthusiasm, I started coming to the stall at 3pm to meet them.

“Every day, we prepare 70 chickens for ayam golek, which are sold at RM25 each. For a complete set with ayam golek and biryani rice, it’s only RM28,” she added.

On her career, Wan Maimunah said that she has not retired from the entertainment industry and still receives acting offers.

However, at the present moment, she wishes to take a short break and spend time with her family.

“Many customers and fans have expressed how much they miss seeing me act because of the impact of my performances. God willing, if the opportunity arises, I will return to acting,” she said.
