NEW regulations and regulatory requirements are currently being developed by the Transport Ministry for p-hailing services, says Anthony Loke (pic).
The Transport Minister said this is being done following the enforcement of the Land Public Transport (Amendment) Act 2023 (Act 715).
“This step is being taken to ensure that the implementation of p-hailing services is carried out while considering the interests of all parties involved, including service providers and p-hailing delivery partners,” said Loke in a written reply to a question from Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru).
Sim had asked the Transport Ministry on its plan to regulate the algorithms and rates of p-hailing companies.
He also asked whether the ministry will set a minimum rate based on distance and time, as well as a guaranteed minimum income for p-hailing workers.
In response, Loke said that wages are determined by p-hailing platforms based on variables such as traffic congestion, weather conditions, travel distance, time, demand and service availability.
Those factors are set by the market and without any involvement from the authorities, added the Transport Minister.
