KUALA LUMPUR: The police have recorded the statements of six Era FM personnel, including three DJs in connection with a recent controversy.
The six individuals were seen leaving the Bukit Aman's federal police headquarters at about 1.10pm on Wednesday (March 5).
The three DJs, ferried in a black MPV, did not speak to the media waiting outside Bukit Aman.
The three other Era personnel were seen exiting Bukit Aman accompanied by others.
Earlier, all six arrived at Bukit Aman at about 10.30am to give their statement.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain reportedly said that six individuals would be called to have their statements recorded by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit in connection to a video that appeared to mock a religious ceremony.
"(Apart from the three DJs) The three others are the Astro Audio director, a social media executive, as well as the radio station manager," he said when contacted on Wednesday.
A total of 44 police reports have been lodged nationwide over the video, and the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
According to the IGP, before the video was removed, it had been viewed 95,400 times and shared by 204 social media users.
Following widespread criticism, the radio announcers involved have since issued an official apology through the Era FM Facebook page.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to conduct a thorough investigation following complaints from various parties over the incident.
