Sabah polls: State PKR, not central leadership, has final say on electoral pacts, says info chief

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR has reaffirmed that it has full autonomy in deciding electoral pacts, seat distribution, and manifesto planning, with the party’s central leadership only being informed before any official announcement is made.

Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin said this following a statement by the party’s Deputy Treasurer Datuk Nordin Ening that Sabah PKR would leave it to the party’s central leadership to decide on political alliances ahead of the upcoming state election.

“The central leadership will decide on the matter after consulting the new state leadership council,” Nordin had said after officiating the 2025 annual general meeting of the Silam PKR division in Lahad Datu.

However, Razeef stressed that decisions on election cooperation are made by the Sabah PKR state leadership council before being conveyed to the central leadership for reference, not the other way around.

Razeef reminded party leaders not to issue statements without consulting the state leadership council, emphasising that only the chairman and deputy chairman are authorised to speak independently, while the information chief serves as the party’s official spokesperson after obtaining approval from the political bureau.

“We urge party leaders to maintain organisational discipline and refrain from making hasty statements without referring to the state leadership council,” he added in a statement on Sunday (March 2).
