Three foreign workers drown off Tanjung Langsat, Johor

PASIR GUDANG: Three male foreign workers were found drowned in the waters off Tanjung Langsat near here after their boat was believed to have drifted.

The incident was believed to have taken place late Monday (Feb 24), when the victims, workers of a company in Felda Semenchu, Kota Tinggi, failed to return to their workplace.

“They were on their way home by a fibreglass boat towards Bandar Masai via the sea route,’’ said Pasir Gudang Fire state acting chief Sarhan Akmal Mohamad.

He said their disappearance became known when the boat was found stranded on the Tanjung Langsat beach by local fishermen, who then made a report to the police.

Sarhan Akmal added at 12.19am Tuesday (Feb 25), the Singapore Police Coast Guard (SPCG) discovered a body of a Nepalese man identified as Sukhal in the waters off Changi, Singapore.

“We received an emergency call in regard to the incident at 10.53am (Feb 25), and deployed the Operation Rescue Team to the scene,’’ said Sarhan Akmal.

He said the search and rescue operation was carried out using an aluminum boat covering areas in the Kebayan hawker centre in Tanjung Langsat and the nearby jetty.

Sarhan Akmal said the body of Ghalam Lam Bahadur, a Nepalese national, was found by the SPCG near Singapore at 11am.

The body of the third victim, an Indonesian male identified as Asprisius Bria Nahak, was discovered by the Tanjung Langsat Port auxiliary police about 50m from the Tanjung Langsat Port jetty at 3.34pm

“The operation ended at 5.24pm and all the bodies were handed over to the authorities for further action,’’ said Sarhan Akhlal.
