JOHOR BARU: The trailer lorry driver involved in a fatal accident involving three vehicles at KM212 on Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban near Taman Golden Hill intersection, Gemas Baharu, yesterday evening was remanded for four days starting today until next Monday.
Segamat district police chief, Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail when contacted said the remand order against the 28-year-old suspect was issued by Magistrate Amalina Johar at the Segamat Magistrate's Court here, Friday (April 3).
Supt Mohd Jumazanzahir said in the incident yesterday evening, the victims who died were a married couple and the van driver.
"The van driver was the brother of the wife of married couple while the two injured victims were the driver's grandchildren," he said briefly.
Earlier, the media reported that three individuals died while two others were slightly injured in an accident involving three vehicles at the Taman Golden Hill intersection, Gemas Baharu, yesterday evening.
Johor police chief Datuk CP Ab Rahaman Arsad said the incident at 3.45pm was believed to have occurred when a trailer driven by a local man hit the back of a van carrying the victims.
"As a result of the collision, the van lost control before entering the opposite lane and colliding with a lorry," he said in a statement early this morning.
He said the three victims in the van were confirmed dead at the scene due to serious injuries.
Ab Rahaman said two other van passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Segamat Hospital for further treatment, while the drivers of lorry and trailer were unhurt.
He said the trailer driver had been detained to assist in the investigation and initial urine screening results found the man to be positive for methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of drugs causing death, as well as Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for injecting drugs into the body. - Bernama
