Married couple among three charged with trafficking over half a tonne of meth


KANGAR: Three people, including a married couple, have been charged at a Magistrate’s Court here with trafficking 510kg of methamphetamine in Wang Kelian last month.

Mohd Rizuan Ramli, 37, and husband and wife Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, 27, and Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah, 24, nodded in understanding after the charge was read to them before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal on Friday (April 3).

However, no plea was recorded from all three accused as drug trafficking cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, they are jointly accused of trafficking 510,000g of methamphetamine at the main road near an electrical substation in Wang Kelian, Jalan Wang Kelian, Kaki Bukit near Padang Besar at about 9.30am on March 24.

The charge is under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty, or life imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The court did not allow bail for all the accused and set July 2 for mention pending the chemist's report. – Bernama
