Home Ministry denies Suaram’s claims of arrests

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Affairs Ministry (KDN) has denied reports of arrests during the submission of a memorandum at the Setia Perkasa Complex on Monday, which had circulated on social media.

In a statement on Wednesday (Feb 12), the ministry clarified that participants in the memorandum submission were only asked to provide statements to the police as part of standard security procedures in accordance with the Restricted Areas and Prohibited Places Act 1959 (Act 298).

It further explained that the police conducted the usual procedure for any incidents that did not comply with security protocols for entering the Setia Perkasa Complex.

The ministry emphasised that no arrests were made and urged social media users to verify information from reliable sources to avoid misinformation while also adhering to the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Separately, Putrajaya District police chief ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed confirmed that police only recorded the statement of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) executive director, Sevan Doraisamy and refuted reports suggesting the latter had been detained for entering KDN premises without a pass. – Bernama
