Heavy rain forecast for Johor, Putrajaya and three other states until 1pm


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across five states and the Federal Territory of Putrajaya, effective until 1pm on Tuesday (July 7).

In Johor, the warning encompasses Tangkak, Muar, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru in Johor.

In the central region, the weather alert covers Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat and Sepang in Selangor, alongside Putrajaya.

Residents in several districts in Negeri Sembilan, namely Jelebu, Seremban and Port Dickson, should also brace for storms.

Over in East Malaysia, Sarawak will see severe weather in Bintulu (Tatau) and Miri (Subis).

For Sabah, the alert covers Pantai Barat (Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau, Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 10.40am on Tuesday.
