Fight between two foreign tourists in Penang resolved

GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed that an altercation between a foreign woman and her male companion at Persiaran Karpal Singh early on Monday morning (Feb 10) was resolved amicably without further action.

Northeast District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said that they received a report from a 33-year-old foreign woman about the incident at 3:45am

She claimed an argument occurred between her and a male friend from the same country around 12:30am.

"It is understood that their friends managed to diffuse the situation before both individuals went to the Northeast District Police Headquarters for further action.

"The investigation concluded that the case is classified as no further action after the male friend apologised to the complainant," he said in a statement.

He added that the woman also withdrew her report, forgave her friend, and did not wish to pursue the case.

"Therefore, the police advise the public not to speculate or spread false news about the incident, as it could cause concern among the community, including foreign tourists," he said.

Sinar Harian reported earlier that several photos and a 33-second video clip went viral, showing a man arguing with a woman in a convenience store.

The incident also involved the public, who were seen trying to break up the argument.
