Motorcyclist killed in Pontian accident, car driver injured


PONTIAN: A motorcyclist was killed, while a car driver sustained injuries following an accident at Jalan Kukup Penerok, near Klinik Kesihatan Penerok.

Pontian Baru Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Dzulkhan Iskandar said that the department received an emergency call at 12.02pm on Saturday (Feb 8) and dispatched a team to the location

He added that the first fire engine arrived at the scene at 12.20pm, covering a distance of 10km.

“The accident involved a car and a motorcycle. Upon arrival, medical personnel from the Health Department confirmed that the motorcyclist, a 51-year-old man, had died at the scene.

“Meanwhile, the car driver was found trapped inside the vehicle,” he said in a statement.

He added that firefighters conducted a rescue operation using specialised equipment to extricate the trapped driver.

Once freed, the injured individual was handed over to the ambulance team for medical treatment, while the deceased motorcyclist was handed over to the police for further action.

Eight firefighters were involved in the rescue, utilising a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit.

Meanwhile, Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib has confirmed the case and said that it is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred at approximately 11.45am when the car, travelling from Pontian towards Kukup, lost control upon reaching the accident site.

“The vehicle veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the oncoming motorcycle travelling from Kukup towards Pontian,” he said.

As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist sustained severe head, body, and leg injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver suffered head and leg injuries and was subsequently transferred to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for further treatment.
