KUCHING: Villagers from Kampung Selampit in Lundu are hoping for a solution to flash floods caused by heavy rain.

The village security and development committee (JKKK) secretary Peter Babo said flash floods were a frequent problem, especially during the monsoon season from the year-end to the beginning of the year.

"Every time there is heavy rain, like what we experienced in the last one to two days, we will face flash floods.

"The access road to the village will be flooded with 60cm to 90cm of water," he said on Thursday (Feb 6).

Peter said 300 to 400 houses in Kampung Selampit, a Bidayuh village located about 84km from here, were affected by the latest flash floods.

He said the situation was currently under control but called on the government to implement a long-term solution.

"We want this issue to be resolved. Hopefully the government can improve the situation for Kampung Selampit," he added.
