Ipoh man arrested for having slingshots, crossbows


IPOH: Police have nabbed a 34-year-old man for possessing slingshots, one that looks similar to rifles and crossbows.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Comm Zulkafli Sariaat confirmed that the suspect was arrested in a raid at 12.30pm on Wednesday (Feb 5) on Jalan Tambun here.

"During the raid, the police seized seven units of slingshots which are similar to rifles, four crossbows, six types of arrows where each type has five arrows, 300 ball bearing beads and one unit of a mobile phone," he said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 6).

DCP Zulkafli added that the suspect has been remanded for two days from Feb 5 to Feb 6 to assist in the investigation.

He added that the urine test revealed that the suspect was negative for drugs and had no criminal record.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 7(1)(a) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

"Therefore, the public is advised to always comply with the laws set regarding the ownership and use of firearms, and the police will not compromise with anyone found in possession of homemade or unlicensed firearms," he added.
