KOTA KINABALU: Two foreign workers suspected of stabbing their employers with a palm oil fruit harvesting tool in central Tongod on Feb 1 have finally been nabbed.
The suspects, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s, were arrested near Maxland Estate in Tongod, at around 5pm, Wednesday (Feb 5).
Beluran OCPD Supt Hasan Majid said the duo were apprehended following information shared by the public.
“Both suspects have been remanded to facilitate investigations for group armed robbery, and can be jailed up to 20 years and caned,” he said in a statement, Thursday (Feb 6).
He said following the 2pm attack on Feb 1, a man hunt was mounted for the suspects after they allegedly stabbed their employers, aged 50 and 23 years old, respectively, at Kampung Napagang Entilibon, Tongod before fleeing in the victim’s car.
They had allegedly also fled with cash among other things.
ACP Hasan said the operation to track down the suspects was conducted with the General Operations Force, Air Force, Tongod police station, Sabah Police Contingent K9 Unit and other units from the police headquarters in Kepayan here.
Searches were made on the estate they worked at, nearby estates and villages, workers quarters and other farms, he said.
“We also issued a circular and alert to the public to help keep an eye out for the suspects,” he said in thanking the public for their information which led to the breakthrough of this case.
Both injured victims were recuperating well and are still being treated at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.
