Postpone state party AGM to focus on Sabah polls, urges state PKR leader

KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah PKR leader wants the annual general meeting of the state party divisions to be held after the state polls which is expected to be called anytime this year.

Sabah PKR vice-chairman Roslan Sapar said the party AGM election should be postponed to allow state leaders, division chiefs, Wanita wing and other committees to focus on the state elections.

He said holding party polls now would cause disunity and affect the overall performance and cooperation between members and leaders to face the state polls.

“If we postpone our AGM election, this can prove to Sabahans of our autonomy and strengthen the notion that PKR is not a ‘Malaya party’,” he said.

Roslan, who is also the Kalabakan PKR division chief, said this proposal was made in the last general meeting where 25 division chiefs have agreed to put a hold on the coming AGM elections due this year until the state polls are complete.

He said the postponement was for the good of the party, and not for personal gains, denying talk that they were going against the central leadership's decisions.

“This postponement is needed so that all party leaders, committee and members can focus first on winning the state elections by strengthening their election machinery in all the districts and divisions,” he added.

The central leadership had issued them with a letter instructing them to hold their party division elections by April this year.
