Three detained for selling drugs to Pinkfish concertgoers

PETALING JAYA: Three men have been detained in connection with selling drugs to Pinkfish Countdown 2024 concertgoers.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspects, aged 20 to 30, were detained around Selangor between Jan 8 and 21.

"One of the suspects was believed to have been at the concert while two others were not.

"Investigation showed some of the victims who survived bought ecstasy pills at the concert.

"There were also those who got the pills outside and took it before the concert began," he told reporters on Saturday (Jan 25).

Comm Hussein stated that the police would work together to impose stricter requirements for concerts in the future to prevent such incidents.

"Among the other aspects that will be looked at are the type of music being played and the number of patrons depending on the location of the concerts," he said.

It was reported that four died after attending the Pinkfish concert in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya, on New Year's Eve, while three others survived.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that all seven individuals fell unconscious after using drugs at the concert.

One of the victims who survived had already been discharged from the hospital.

Comm Hussein said the concert organiser had failed to ensure the safety of concert-goers.

"We are also looking at whether the Pinkfish concert was at overcapacity.

"We discovered that 14,000 tickets were sold. With security and first aid teams on the scene, we believe more than 14,000 people were there that night," he said.
