Suspected drug use led to deaths at Pinkfish concert

PETALING JAYA: The four people who died after attending the Pinkfish Countdown 2024 concert in Bandar Sunway here on New Year’s Eve are believed to have taken drugs.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told reporters the victims were suspected of having consumed Ecstasy pills.

He said police are waiting for the toxicology reports to confirm the cause of death.

“Besides the four victims, three other people also have the same symptoms, with two still receiving treatment at the hospital’s intensive care unit while another has been discharged.

“The seven of them did not go to the concert together, they went with their respective friends and families,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said police have opened four investigation papers to determine if there was any criminal element or poisoning following six police reports lodged by the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre and Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

Comm Hussein said police have recorded the statements of six people to assist with the investigation.

“We will call up several others including the concert organiser and the victims’ friends,” he added.

Comm Hussein urged those with information to contact the Subang Jaya district police headquarters at 03-7862 7222 or any police station.

On Wednesday, four locals aged between 20 and 40, including two women, died after attending the concert.

Comm Hussein said post-mortem examinations revealed all four victims had no external injuries and police have classified the cases as sudden death pending laboratory results.
