KUALA LUMPUR: An investment company director has claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to 10 counts of receiving proceeds from illegal activities totalling RM13.4mil.
Datuk Norliza Tajudin, 54, pleaded not guilty to all the charges after they were read before judge Suzana Hussin here on Wednesday (Aug 19).
"I understand (the charges). I plead not guilty, I claim trial," she said.
For the first until 10th charges, Norliza was accused of receiving proceeds from illegal activities amounting to RM13.4mil through cheques and online transfers from Energy Eco Bhd's bank account to her own bank account and Aura Emas Trading Sdn Bhd's bank account, where Norliza sat as the company director.
The offences were allegedly committed at three banks in Taman Setiawangsa, Wangsa Melawati and Bangsar between Feb 1, 2021, and Feb 2, 2024.
All of the charges were framed under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).
Norliza faces a maximum 15 years jail time and fine of no less than five times the amount of proceeds of illegal activities or RM5mil, whichever is higher, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar applied for the court to use Norliza's previous bail of RM100,000 in the present case. She also applied for the case to be tried together with the previous case.
Norliza's lawyer Datuk Gobinath Mohanna did not object.
Judge Suzana allowed both applications.
"As both parties have agreed, the court allows the prosecution's request to use the previous bail along with its additional conditions pending the disposal of the trial," she said.
The case is fixed for mention on Oct 29.
On May 11, Norliza and prominent Islamic finance figure Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar claimed trial over allegations of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM10.55mil at the same court.
Judge Suzana had allowed them a RM100,000 bail in one surety each and ordered for them to surrender their passports to the court.
