CFO pleads not guilty to misappropriating RM6.5mil meant for LHDN


SEREMBAN: A 55-year-old chief financial officer of a company which operates a private university here claimed trial in the Sessions Court to a charge of committing criminal breach of trust involving RM6.5mil.

Noraini Aripin pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to her before Judge Kunasundary Marimuthu.

The accused allegedly misappropriated funds intended for the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) as ad valorem duty and used them for other purposes.

Noraini was charged with committing the offence between Sept 2025 and April this year.

She was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code (Criminal breach of trust by public servant or agent), which carries a jail term of between two and 20 years and a fine upon conviction.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Syairah Aqilah Khalil then told the court the prosecution was offering the accused bail of RM100,000 with two sureties pending next mention.

She also asked the court to order the accused to surrender her passport and to report to the MACC office here monthly until her case is disposed of.

Kelvin Ong, who represented the accused, pleaded for a lower bail, adding that Noraini, who had five children, was not a flight risk.

He said Noraini, who earned RM15,000 a month, was also receiving treatment for cancer.

"My client has also been cooperating with the MACC since the probe began.

"We hope the court will reduce the bail amount to RM50,000," he said.

Judge Kunasundary then set bail at RM80,000 with two sureties.

She also allowed the other application from the prosecution.

The court then fixed Sept 21 for next mention and submission of documents.
