Jobless man cheated of RM516,341 in non-existent online business


JOHOR BARU: A local man claimed to have lost RM516,341 in a non-existent online shoe business which offered high returns of between 30% and 60% daily.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 60-year-old unemployed who could not resist the temptation of getting higher profits decided to join the business.

He said the victim made 24 transactions starting from July 3, 2026, until Aug 14, this year into 24 bank accounts amounting to RM516,341.

“The victim was directed to deposit more money into the bank accounts in order for him to get his profits,’’ ACP Mohd Sohaimi said in a statement.

He said the victim only realised he was conned after not getting the promised profits, adding that the money lost was his own savings.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

He reminded the public to be alert and careful especially in matters involving financial transactions when dealing with unknown persons.
