JOHOR BARU: Several school assessments and examinations scheduled for Monday (Oct 12) in Johor have been postponed following school closures due to the ongoing haze.
The Johor Education Department said the affected assessments included the Year Four Learning Matrix (MPT4) and the Special School Admission Assessment (PKSK).
"The assessments will be postponed and rescheduled in accordance with decisions made by the Examinations Board and the Johor Education Department.
"The new date for PKSK will be announced later, while teachers and officers involved in the assessment are not required to attend.
"Schools and assessment centres must also inform parents, guardians and candidates of the changes," it said in a statement on Sunday.
The department said teachers and school staff would also be allowed to work from home following consideration by the Education Minister.
However, officers at the state and district education offices would continue working as usual.
"Home-based teaching and learning will also be implemented throughout the closure period to ensure that students can continue their lessons.
"For boarding schools, permission for students to return home will be subject to the respective principals' decisions, based on current risk assessments and considerations regarding students' safety and welfare," it said.
On Saturday, Johor education and information committee chairman Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali announced that all schools and educational institutions in the state would remain closed for another five days from Monday to Friday due to the ongoing haze.
He said the decision was made after considering several factors, including weather conditions, air pollution levels and potential health risks.
The latest extension follows an earlier two-day closure of schools across Johor on Thursday and Friday due to worsening haze conditions.
