PETALING JAYA: Death threats targeting Harith Iskander's family have led to the cancellation of his show at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), according to his ex-wife.
The threats emerged following Harith's controversial coffee joke related to the "ham and cheese" sandwich issue.
On Instagram, Dr Jezamine Lim, who is also Harith's manager, stated that a police report had been filed regarding the threats made against their family.
"Last week, I received a death threat but what cut deeper and shook me to my core was a vile threat of abuse against our children," she wrote on Saturday (Jan 25).
"Let me be crystal clear – threatening the safety of innocent children crosses every imaginable line. It is despicable, cowardly and inhumane. A report has been made and the police are investigating, so I will not be commenting further on the matter."
Due to these threats and relentless online attacks from certain individuals, Jezamine stated that DFP and the family agreed to cancel the show to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved.
"This decision was not made lightly. Harith has poured months of preparation and hard work into this show, to see it cancelled has been heartbreaking for him," she said.
"It is deeply disappointing for all of us as Zander and Zydane (their children) were supposed to be part of the opening act of the show. I am utterly disheartened by how mindless mob mentality can drive people to such extremes."
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that a report was lodged on Jan 23.
He said police were investigating under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 509 of the same code for using words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a person.
On Friday, DFP announced the cancellation of Harith's stand-up comedy show, which had been scheduled for the following day.
Harith had earlier posted on Facebook that his faith was "shaken" after seeing the word "ham" in the name of a coffee drink called "ham sap kopi", supposedly in a joking manner.
