More than 10,000 chickens killed in fire at farm in Miri


SIBU: A chicken farm in Jalan Bakam, Miri suffered huge losses after about 15,000 chickens were killed in a fire on Tuesday.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), said the fire had wiped out the chicken coop (Farm E1) which has an area of 60 x 400 square feet.

The department received a distress call about the incident at 11.45pm on Tuesday (Jan 21) night.

Firefighters from the Miri Sentral fire station were immediately dispatched to the scene, with assistance from the Lopeng fire station.

"There are 15,000 chickens killed in the fire. After ensuring that the fire was completely extinguished and the situation was safe, the teams returned to the station," it said.

Aside from the chickens, no casualties were reported in the incident.
