BANGI: A RM10,000 Madani Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Grant will be awarded to each parliamentary constituency regardless of political affiliation.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said this initiative by the ministry would be channelled through the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department to the offices of MPs in the first half of the year.

"However, the funds will not be channelled to those who hold positions such as ministers, deputy ministers or mentris besar (as they get larger allocations).

"The grant is to help MPs implement STI-related programmes in their constituencies for primary or secondary school students or the local community," he told a press conference after delivering the ministry's New Year Message here on Tuesday (Jan 21).

Also present was Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohammad Yusof Apdal.

Chang said the funds received will also be audited to ensure that their distribution meets the purpose of the grant, which also aims to strengthen community participation in the field of science and technology. – Bernama
