MACC probe into Daim, family's asset still ongoing, says Azam Baki

PUTRAJAYA: The probe into the assets and finances of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin and his family are still ongoing, says the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“We need to ascertain and determine this based on the allegations and complaints received by us.

“The same goes for his wife Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid.

“We are still investigating and tracing their assets,” MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told a press conference here on Tuesday (Jan 21).

Azam said the graftbusters also obtained data and information about the family's assets outside the country.

This was based on information from authorities outside the country, he said.

“Indicators show there are assets outside the country and we may have to trace this.

“If so, we will have to make an application to retrieve this,” he said.

Azam however said this would be an uphill task owing to different jurisdictions and legal frameworks in other countries.

“This will be challenging as it involves statements outside the country and what's more retrieving foreign assets,” he said without naming the countries.

On Jan 29 last year, Daim was charged with alleged failure to declare his assets.

He however passed away on Nov 13 last year at the age of 86.
