KOTA KINABALU: Ngor Ngor, a beloved grumpy dog “influencer” in the Ranau district who had brought laughter to tens of thousands of faces, has died.
The chubby male canine’s owner, known only as Ira, suspects that he was poisoned and in a Facebook post said goodbye to her dog, thanking him for the joy he had brought to the family for so long.
Ngor Ngor, which has his own Tiktok account at https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS6XkfYvS/, with over 30,000 followers, died on Jan 15, leading to an outpouring of sadness among fans.
“Thank you, Ngor Ngor, for being our entertainer all this while. Ngor Ngor is gone, guys,” Ira said, thanking everyone for their love for the dog.
“Ngor Ngor will be remembered forever,” she wrote.
It is unclear what caused his death, but some claimed he was poisoned and called for the authorities to conduct a post-mortem.
Ira had also shared an update stating that she suspected Ngor Ngor was poisoned, but there has been no verification.
Many users have also gone to social media to express their condolences and sadness, saying how much they would miss his funny antics.Ngor Ngor gained fame last year when Ira posted a video of herself asking the dog to “ngor ngor”, to which it obeyed and growled.
Ira had previously mentioned how the dog, which was one of a litter of three, was rescued after all three were run over by a vehicle when still puppies.
There were some bone issues and other injuries following the accident, and the family did not think that he would survive but he did, while his two siblings died.
The incident was believed to have obstructed some of his growth due to the injury and Ngor Ngor grew up to become chubby.
He feared human touch and was known to be grumpy, but he loved food and also liked chasing children who came near to taunt him, but would stop running after a few steps.
He couldn’t be touched or patted after the accident, probably due to trauma or pain at that time, and it was only recently that a family member managed to touch and pat him.
Still, Ngor Ngor loved the attention he got from those around him.
His owners even had a nice kennel for him, but he preferred to sleep on the ground.
