Cameron flower growers’ woes to be looked into, says Mat Sabu

SERDANG: The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry will look into issues affecting flower growers in Cameron Highlands following reports that heavy rainfall has disrupted cultivation activities.

Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the ministry would assess the situation and identify suitable intervention measures through the relevant agencies.

“Yes, planting activities have indeed been affected. The ministry will immediately go and check.

“We will see what solutions can be taken, especially through the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and the Department of Agriculture,” he said when asked about complaints raised by flower growers in Cameron Highlands on Monday (May 18).

Mohamad said this at a press conference held in conjunction with the Hi-Tea Pitch and Connect programme for the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism Exhibition 2026.

It was reported that the floriculture industry, valued at about RM500mil annually and heavily concentrated in Cameron Highlands, is a significant agricultural sector, with the highlands producing more than 80% of Malaysia’s cut flower exports.
