Bruneian paddlers claim podium finish in Sabah regatta


BANDAR BEGAWAN: Brunei’s Lela Cheteria team produced an impressive showing at the Kinabalu International Dragon Boat Regatta after advancing to the final of the Masters 45-and-above category at Teluk Likas, Sabah. The 11th edition of the regatta was held over last weekend.

Competing alongside the Mukim Saba Boat Racing Team, Lela Cheteria went on to claim third place in the Masters Trophy final at the event organised by the Sabah Chinese Associations Federation.

The Brunei contingent continued its strong campaign with both Lela Cheteria and Mukim Saba qualifying for the final of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah Cup in the International/Malaysia Open category for 20 paddlers.

The annual regatta, one of Sabah’s major tourism events, attracted wide participation and strong support from local spectators as well as international visitors.

Lela Cheteria described the competition as a rewarding and memorable experience, adding that the achievement would further motivate the team in competitive water sports.

The participation of Brunei teams also helped strengthen regional ties through sports and cultural exchange, while providing a platform to promote sportsmanship and closer cooperation among neighbouring countries. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
