Phones belonging to Zara Qairina and mother among those analysed, court told

KOTA KINABALU: The mobile phones belonging to the late Zara Qairina Mahathir and her mother, Noraidah Lamat, were among 15 mobile phones analysed by police Computer Crime Investigation Unit analyst Asst Supt Mohd Zaidi Abu Hassan.

Mohd Zaidi, the 70th witness in the inquest into Zara Qairina's death, revealed this when testifying in the Coroner's Court here on Monday (May 18), reported Sinar Harian.

Zara Qairina's phone was referred to as WF1, while her mother's phone was identified as WF11.

The witness said several sets of data were extracted from Zara Qairina's phone, including photographs, WhatsApp chats and videos.

He was also asked to verify whether a photograph showing Zara Qairina and another person cycling had been tampered with or altered.

"Based on my experience, this picture has not been altered, tampered with... it is original," he said.

He also confirmed that a video recorded at 5.30pm on July 12, 2025, showing Zara wearing a jersey was an original recording with no interference or editing.

The court was also shown three videos from another mobile phone, identified as WF9, consisting of one 24-second clip from 11.37pm on March 9, 2025, and two one-second clips recorded at 11.27pm and 11.38pm, which showed the lights had yet to be switched off.

Proceedings were adjourned at noon and will resume at 2.15pm.
