Ops Sky: Four more bank officers arrested by MACC over loan syndicate

PETALING JAYA: Four more bank officers have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Friday in connection with a loan syndicate targeting public servants.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the four individuals are the latest arrests in the case and that the commission will seek a remand order for the suspects.

"Previously, 12 individuals were remanded for five days, but seven of them will be released on Saturday (Jan 18).

"We will request to extend the remand for the remaining five to assist in the investigation," he said on Saturday.

It was reported that the MACC had uncovered a loan syndicate involving financial management professionals.

Loans amounting to RM700mil were allegedly approved for public servants, with the operation suspected of involving corruption and money laundering activities.

The syndicate, which involved financial consulting firms and financial institutions, was exposed following the arrest of 12 individuals in the Klang Valley.

The suspects, including two women aged in their 20s and 40s, were detained during "Ops Sky," a series of raids conducted at 24 locations, including homes and offices, on Monday.
