KOTA KINABALU: Strategic relations between graftbusters and the media are vital in the dissemination of accurate, timely and credible information, said the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
MACC director for Sabah Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah said in this digital age, the media plays an important role and is among the main elements in creating awareness on integrity and anti-graft culture to the community.
“The media plays a huge role in sharing perceptions apart from helping build confidence towards the works of enforcement and anti-corruption education,” he said during a get-together session with media practitioners here, Saturday (May 9).
“Therefore, the strategic relations between the MACC and the media are vital in ensuring credible news and information on anti-graft operations and activities are shared with the public,” he said.
Mohd Fuad said the media is not just to report news but are strategic partners in building a more aware community in its fight against corruption and power abuse.
He said that as the media can greatly shape perceptions and mould community discernment, their roles are vital in ensuring that the right type of information is shared.
He said the Sabah MACC will continue to hold educational and advocational programmes with the media, learning institutions, private sectors and the grassroots communities to increase awareness on the need to fight against corruption.
“I hope this close relation with the media can be strengthened and continue to holistically fight graft,” said Mohd Fuad.
