Prosecution closes case in senior police officer's murder trial of student


IPOH: The prosecution has concluded its case in the trial of a senior police officer accused of murdering a secondary school student in Meru Raya in December 2023.

The 23-day prosecution trial wrapped up with the final witness Asst Supt S. Dasarathan, who was recalled for cross-examination on Friday (Jan 17).

Deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz informed the High Court that the prosecution officially closed its case after calling 33 witnesses.

"There are no further witnesses to call, and the prosecution is offering seven witnesses to the defence," he said on Friday (Jan 17).

Justice Bhupindar Singh Gurcharan Singh Preet directed both parties to file their written submissions by March 14 and their replies by April 11.

He scheduled a mention on April 14 via Zoom to set dates for oral submissions.

The case involves Deputy Supt Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, who is accused of murdering Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie at the intersection of Jalan Taman Jati/Jalan Pekeliling Meru Indah near SMK Jati on Dec 15, 2023.

DSP Mohd Nazri was first charged at the Magistrate’s Court here on Dec 18, 2023.

The prosecution team also comprised Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, V. Suloshani, and Low Qin Hui, while the defence team included lawyers M. Athimulan, Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, and Aiman Hakim Kamaruzzaman.
