MACC nabs man in Puspakom bribery probe

KUALA LUMPUR: A man has been arrested in connection with a corruption case involving heavy vehicle inspections at the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) in the capital.

In a statement, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the man, in his 40s, was arrested on Friday, following a collaboration between the commission and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

“The person was handed over by JPJ and arrested after his statement was recorded at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect made payments of hundreds of ringgit for each vehicle in exchange for approving heavy vehicle inspections at Puspakom,” the commission said, Bernama reported.

The suspect is believed to have committed the offence last year, according to sources.

MACC senior director (Investigation) Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act.

MACC said the arrest underscored both MACC’s and JPJ’s commitment to safeguarding the vehicle inspection process and ensuring it remains free from corruption.

The commission also reiterated its commitment to combating corruption, particularly in the enforcement sector, to ensure that public services in Malaysia remain transparent, maintain integrity and are trusted by the people.
