Heavy rain causes flash floods in parts of Klang on Jan 5

KLANG: A road adjacent to the busy Jalan Tengku Kelana here turned into a river of sorts when a heavy downpour slammed some parts of the royal city Sunday (Jan 5) evening.

People were seen wading along Jalan Pulasan as the water did not seem to subside even after the downpour stopped briefly.

Entrepreneurs Association of Little India Klang president Charles Manickam said the heavy rain started at 5.45pm and lasted until about 7.10pm.

“It stopped for a while and restarted at 7.45 pm but was not that heavy the second time around," said Manickam adding that water started to subside at about 8pm.

He hoped the relevant authorities would do the necessary to clear the drains and waterways so that such flooding would not happen again.

Mary Jeane Sivakumar found herself stuck at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church, also at Jalan Tengku Kelana, where she had gone to attend the evening mass.

“Water was rushing through the church compound and the area around the Simpang Lima roundabout was also flooded ankle-deep," she said.

According to Mary Jeanne, Jalan Mohet, off Jalan Tengku Kelana, was also flooded.
