Thunderstorms, strong winds expected in KL, four states


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain in four states and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department at 1.10pm on Saturday (Jan 4), thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over Perak, Selangor, Sabah and Sarawak.

Also affected are Perak (Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Selangor (Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Petaling), Sarawak: Sibu (Selangau), Mukah, Miri (Miri and Marudi) and Limbang, Sabah: Interior (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Nabawan), West Coast (Tuaran and Kota Belud), Tawau and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Kudat).

The advisory is until 5pm today.

The Northeast Monsoon phase is expected to start on Nov 5 and continue until March 2025, bringing about five to seven episodes of heavy rainfall throughout this period.
