MetMalaysia warns of thunderstorms in multiple states until 9pm

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in several states until 9pm on Saturday (Jan 4).

In a statement, MetMalaysia said areas affected are Kedah (Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu); Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim); Selangor (Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Hulu Langat and Sepang); Federal Territory of Putrajaya; Negri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Rembau) and Melaka (Alor Gajah and Central Melaka).

Over in East Malaysia, bad weather is expected in Sarawak (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang) and Sabah's Interior; west coast areas (Papar and Ranau); Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran) and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the severe weather.
