PMX pays tribute to doc who treated his black eye

PETALING JAYA: His black eye in 1998 made the headlines and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has paid tribute to the late doctor for treating his injury and for being steadfast in his testimony.

The Prime Minister said that he would always remember Datuk Dr Ahmad Shukri Mohamed (pic) who treated him after he was punched after being taken into police custody back then.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Anwar recalled that the ophthalmologist appeared as a witness in the Royal Commission of Inquiry established to investigate his black eye incident after he was detained.

He said the services and sincerity shown by Dr Ahmad Shukri would always be etched in his memory.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of a family friend, Datuk Dr Ahmad Shukri Mohamed.

“The deceased was the ophthalmologist who treated me when I was beaten in police custody in 1998. The deceased was also among those who appeared as a witness to give evidence to the Royal Commission of Inquiry to dismiss the accusation that I had injured myself.”
