No compromise on traffic offences leading to deaths, says Bukit Aman

PETALING JAYA: The Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) has stressed that all traffic offences resulting in loss of life will be investigated thoroughly and transparently, with firm action, including heavier penalties taken against those found negligent or driving dangerously.

Its director, Comm Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali, said this included cases involving drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, adding that there would be no compromise.

His statement follows a fatal accident along Jalan Raya Barat, Klang on March 29 at about 11.30am, which claimed the life of Amirul Hafiz Omar, 32, a father of three.

“In the incident, initial investigations found that a vehicle driven by a local man had entered the opposite lane while attempting to overtake another vehicle before colliding with a motorcycle travelling straight in its lane,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 1).

Amirul Hafiz died from injuries sustained in the crash.

On Wednesday (April 1), the driver was charged at the Klang Court under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“The offence carries the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, shall also be subjected to not less than 12 strokes of the cane,” he added.

Comm Muhammed Hasbullah said the department remains committed to strengthening enforcement and sending a clear message that any form of negligence on the road that leads to fatalities will not be tolerated.
