Workshop, car, 10 motorcycles destroyed in Jalan Dato Keramat fire

GEORGE TOWN: A workshop at the Jalan Dato Keramat Food Complex here was destroyed in a fire Wednesday (April 1), which also gutted a car and 10 motorcycles.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said in the 2.51pm incident, the temporary workshop structure, measuring 74.32 square metres, was quickly engulfed in flames.

"We received an emergency call at 2.51pm, before a team was dispatched to the scene.

"The fire resulted in a car being almost 90% destroyed, while 10 motorcycles sustained between 10% and 90% damage," he said in a statement Wednesday.

He said firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby areas and brought it under control at 3pm. The operation ended at 4.12pm after mop-up operations were completed.

John Sagun added that there were no casualties in the incident, while the cause of the fire and the total estimated losses are still under investigation. - Bernama
