KUALA LUMPUR: Major General Datuk Marzuki Mokhtar has been appointed as the new National Service Training Department (JLKN) director-general, effective Wednesday (April 1).
In a statement, the department said the appointment was to replace Datuk Ya'cob Samiran, whose service contract ended on Tuesday (March 31), after almost one year and three months at the helm.
Before assuming his new role, Marzuki, 59, was the 24th Army Training Commander for the Malaysian Army Training and Doctrine Command, a post he held since April 2023.
Meanwhile, Marzuki, in the same statement, expressed his commitment to further strengthen the implementation of PLKN 3.0 and achieve its objectives of instilling discipline, identity, and a spirit of togetherness among the younger generation through various training modules.
"With my extensive experience as the former Army Training Commander, I am confident in driving this department forward with greater excellence to achieve the programme's objectives and realise the national agenda," he said.
The handover of duties ceremony for the position was held at JLKN, witnessed by Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali.
Born in Bagan Serai, Perak on May 16, 1967, Marzuki graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Sciences and Defence Studies and started his military career as a Platoon Leader with the 5th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment in Sarawak.
With more than 40 years of experience in the military, he has served in key positions such as adjutant, company leader, military assistant to the Deputy Defence Minister, commanding office, and senior trainer of the mechanised division.
He has also served as director of the operations and training branch at the eastern field command headquarters, chief trainer and subsequently director of the officers' college at the Army Academy, chief of staff of the 3rd Division of the Malaysian Infantry and Commander of the 12th Brigade of the Malaysian Infantry. – Bernama
