I didn’t interfere in Rosmah’s case, says Anwar

IPOH: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed talk that he had instructed the Kuala Lumpur High Court to acquit and discharge Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor of her 17 money laundering and tax evasion charges.

The Prime Minister said it was preposterous to think that he could simply call up judges and instruct them.

“It is unreasonable to think that my administration is like the previous administration, whereby a Prime Minister can call up a judge to give instructions.

“I did not meet any judges nor discuss with any of them on the decision,” he told reporters when met after launching DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang’s first and second volume of his Malaysian First book here yesterday.

“We respect the decision of the court.

“If the Attorney General feels he wants to appeal the decision, it is up to him,” he added.

The Prime Minister said the decision should also not be made a controversy.

“There are various interpretations. What I know, it is a court decision.

“Judgment has been made, so we will read and go through the details of the decision,” he added.

After a six-year trial, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted Rosmah’s application to strike out the charges on Thursday, acquitting her of the 17 charges involving a total of RM7mil.

In his ruling on Thursday, Justice K. Muniandy determined that the prosecution had failed to present the key elements of the offence of money laundering in the charges brought against Rosmah.

Meanwhile, the prosecution has filed an appeal against the court decision.

Attorney General Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said the prosecution has filed a notice of appeal seeking to overturn the High Court’s ruling freeing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wife.

“A Notice of Appeal was filed today against the entire decision of the High Court,” he said in a statement yesterday.
