KUALA LUMPUR: Diminishing the dignity of others does not elevate your dignity of faith, says Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah.
His Royal Highness called on Muslim youths to remind humanity that every human being, regardless of their faith, belongs to one another, as Islam has commanded.
The Ruler said this during an address at the Third International Summit of Religious Leaders 2026 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here on Friday (June 12), which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"Do not allow anyone to convince you that the dignity of your faith depends on diminishing that of another.
"The future of our faith and the coexistence between every tradition represented in this hall will not be secured by one generation alone.
"Our task is not to manage the diversity of this world; it is to help humanity remember how to belong to one another again," said Sultan Nazrin.
His Royal Highness also called on religious leaders to build spaces for the young of different faiths to interact peacefully.
"Let us build spaces where young people of different faiths and backgrounds can meet one another as fellow citizens and as fellow human beings. Let us equip them to speak truthfully, to listen generously and to lead courageously," said Sultan Nazrin.
His Royal Highness said mere sermons would not stop youths from being brainwashed or recruited by AI algorithms and extremists who come under the guise of religion.
"AI-generated disinformation, dressed up in the vocabulary of grievance, now reaches hundreds of millions of young people at a scale and speed no sermon ever could. The argument for division is being won by voices we do not control, on platforms we do not own, in a language we have been too slow to learn.
"Our task should be to nurture their idealism, to keep it from souring into cynicism or being captured by those who would turn its energy to ruinous ends," said Sultan Nazrin.
He further said that there was also a need for religious leaders to play a vital role in returning the trust among different communities.
The two-day Third International Summit of Religious Leaders 2026 was attended by religious leaders from all countries and diplomats.
