SUBANG JAYA: The government has agreed to continue the Special Recognition for Retirees (Penghargaan Khas Kepada Pesara - PKKP) for retirees and pension recipients who have previously received it, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"As a commitment to safeguard the welfare of retirees and pension recipients, the government has agreed to continue the PKKP for any retirees and pension recipients who have previously received PKKP,” said Anwar.

He added that the Cabinet had decided this on Friday (Dec 20) and added that the government will ensure that PKKP recipients receive a higher amount in order to address current living costs.

“This demonstrates the government's concern under the Madani concept, in line with the principle of 'Ihsan' (excellence in deeds and charity)," Anwar said during a special interview with chief editors on Saturday (Dec 21).

The Prime Minister said that the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which came into effect on 1 December 2024, also involves the adjustment of pensions for retirees and pension recipients based on a review of public service salaries, in line with Section 3 of the Pensions Adjustment Act 1980 [Act 238].

"The pension amount will be adjusted according to the percentage of salary adjustment based on the retiree's final salary according to their service groups in stages on Dec 1 2024 and Jan 1 2026."
