I quit to strengthen Perikatan, not due to internal conflicts, says Samsuri

KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said that his unexpected resignation as Perikatan Nasional treasurer was a strategic decision to strengthen the coalition ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16), Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.

The Terengganu Mentri Besar dismissed talk of internal conflicts, stressing that his decision was aimed at enhancing PN’s unity and political strength.

“There is no fracture within Perikatan, and I can confirm that.

“This is part of our efforts to ensure Perikatan becomes a more cohesive and robust political alliance before facing the next general election in two years,” he said after attending an event at Taman Tamadun Islam here on Sunday (Dec 15).

Sinar Harian reported that when asked whether his resignation was voluntary or influenced by external pressures, Samsuri declined to comment, stating only, “No comment.”

He also dismissed speculation that personal issues played a role in his decision, adding that it was up to the party leadership to address such concerns.

Samsuri urged observers to view his resignation as part of a broader plan to position Perikatan as a stronger alternative to the current government.

“This is about building Perikatan into a powerful political force that can serve the people better,” he said.

Samsuri clarified that his decision was unrelated to the recent withdrawal of the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) from Perikatan, telling Sinar Harian that the two matters entirely separate.

The announcement of his resignation, made last Wednesday (Dec 11), followed a recent leadership reshuffle within Perikatan.
